Annie Leonhart, also known as the Female Titan, is a major antagonist of the Attack on Titan anime series and manga. A 14 meter tall Titan with a unique female character design for a primordial titan, encountered during the operation to reconquer Wall Maria. She possesses intelligence, extensive knowledge of unarmed combat and the ability to regenerate or harden certain parts of her body at will during combat 👊. She is the main antagonist of season 1 of the anime .
During her childhood she was trained by her father 🥋 and later by Sieg Jäger and Theo Magath for the people of Mahr alongside Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, Marcel Galliard, Porco Galliard and Pieck . All of them grew up in Liberio, and were locked up in an internment zone, more precisely in one of the ghettos where Mahr's Eldians live.
She serves as the protagonist in the series, while secretly acting as an antagonist off-screen 📺, until the Female Titan arc, where she is introduced as the main antagonist, appearing mostly disguised in her titan form. , his interventions are planned and sponsored by Reiner . Like Bertolt, she obediently follows Reiner's plans and ideas, killing Marco Bott, then the titans Sawney and Bean with Reiner, and finally attempting to capture Eren numerous times according to the latter's orders.
Appearance of the Female Titan
Annie is small but has a good build. Her hair is blonde and ends near her eyes 👀. Annie's eyes are blue and she usually has a stoic face and rarely smiles. She wears the same uniform as everyone else.
In Annie's Titan form, she is noticeably different, but she retains her traits in broad outline. Annie still has her blonde hair and blue eyes, but she is very tall. Unlike the other Titans, Annie did not retain much skin and only has muscle tissue and a little skin around her waist. Finally, Annie has a very well endowed muscular body, with biceps and triceps as well as voluminous thighs 💪.
Personality of Annie Leonhart
Annie is seen as an isolated and cold person; friendships do not come easily to him. She is rarely seen smiling and her face is often devoid of emotion. She has little desire to get involved in disciplines or activities that are of no interest to her. She focuses exclusively on joining the Special Brigades to obtain an easy and peaceful life away from problems. Yet she seems to have a strange respect and even a certain fascination for people who have a deep sense of duty and righteousness. For people who care about their fate and who can dedicate their lives, or even die, to causes they believe in 🙏.
Annie became truly selfish, as she was abandoned at birth and used as a tool by everyone she knew , even her father who wanted a better life through her. She has no interest in protecting outsiders, as she is not committed to the majority of humanity.
While other soldiers aim to improve the lives of their people or protect the world 🛡, Annie only cares about seeing her father 👨👧. She thinks everyone is rotten, which is why she only pursues short-term goals, because they only satisfy her immediate desires . Perhaps her admiration for people dedicated to a cause greater than themselves comes from the fact that she knows that her small goals will not satisfy her, unlike the feelings that the pursuit of justice, morality or morality gives her. almost unrealizable dreams 💭.
Despite Annie's usually cold, ruthless, bloodthirsty, unpleasant, violent behavior, she is shown expressing her feelings in various ways. She was clearly angry when Reiner teased her about her constant avoidance of hand-to-hand combat training. Despite her apparent callousness, she expressed a certain degree of guilt and shock, notably when apologizing to a certain corpse after the Battle of Trost . Annie is also known for being very dedicated and loyal in her mission as a Mahr Warrior, to the point of killing many innocent people to achieve her goal (she also attempted to kill several of her former comrades), and shedding tears when she failed to capture Eren 💧.
Although she seems indifferent towards her high skills as a hand-to-hand combatant, she remains proud of her skills and even seems to enjoy the very notion of combat as deduced by Eren. The only time she was seen smiling in an attentive, positive, and thoughtful manner was when she showed curiosity in teaching Eren how to fight in his unique fighting style.
Story of Annie Leonhart
Start of life
Annie was born as a half-Eldian by her Eldian father, leading to her being abandoned by her mother. She is adopted by Mr. Leonhart who teaches her all martial arts 🤼♀️ in the hopes that she will join the Warriors to get rich. Her training has made her numb to life, both to herself and to others. She is chosen to inherit the Female Titan.
In 845, she was chosen to participate in the scouting operation on the island of Paradise 🏝. One day before leaving for the operation, her father apologizes for his harsh upbringing and asks Annie to come back. She is surprised and has changed in the process. During the operation, she, Reiner and Bertholdt fled after Marcel's death. She blames Reiner for the situation and suggests that he leave the island, but the latter insists on continuing the mission. Annie becomes angry and beats Reiner, but she is strangled by Reiner, who will become Marcel's replacement. She reluctantly continues the operation.
Annie uses her Female Titan to attract the Original Titan. However, this tires Annie who runs from the coast to the Wall without resting. She falls unconscious with the Warriors who infiltrate inside the Wall as refugees , young Annie is among the refugees to receive her food rations 🥫.
Later, Annie appears as a member of the 104th Training Brigade, observing the other budding soldiers who are about to undergo Keith Shadis's "rite of passage". However, the instructor doesn't say a word to Annie and the others, because their faces prove that they have already experienced hell on Earth 🌋 . Two years later, during the brigade's hand-to-hand combat training, Annie is seen slipping away, and Reiner confronts her for it.
He asks Eren to confront Annie , much to Annie's apparent anger. However, the latter effortlessly takes him down and Reiner soon follows 🔪, also ending up on the ground. Eren congratulates Annie on her technique and although she reveals that it was her father who taught her the move, as Eren shows interest, she rejects the idea and claims that such training is useless and continues to mocking the entire military system and even his father's ideals. Later, Annie observes Eren using his move against Jean. She then expresses the desire to teach Eren the correct way to perform it.
Battle of Trost District
Shortly after graduation, the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan appear in the Trost District and break down the outer gate, letting the Titans enter the city. Although the evacuation is complete, the soldiers are unable to return due to a lack of gas, much to everyone's despair. In this situation, Annie is suddenly approached by Mikasa, looking for Eren. She is then surprised to learn that he, as well as most of his squad, would have been killed during a battle. Trying to keep calm, Mikasa attempts to spur everyone into action, with Annie and the others rushing after her to reach HQ and restock. They finally succeed, but with losses ⚰.
While the mysterious Assailant Titan repels most of the Titans attacking the HQ, Annie and the others try to get rid of the smaller Titans inside. After the plan's success, the group witnesses the Attack Titan being devoured by other Titans. Annie hears Jean and Reiner arguing over whether or not to act and proclaims that the Titan must be kept alive because it could serve as a powerful ally. It was at this time that she learned of Eren's ability to change into a Titan after he emerged from the neck of the Rebel Titan.
Unbeknownst to the rest of the soldiers, Eren is interrogated by Kitts Verman who ultimately attempts to kill him due to his Titan ability. Annie and the others hear the lightning caused by Eren's second transformation, although half-realized, his Titan form allows Mikasa and Armin to be defended with cannon fire. This alarms Reiner enough that he rushes near the lightning, quickly followed by Jean, Annie and Bertolt. They then witness the scene where Eren's Titan form is surrounded by stationary Guard soldiers. They witness Armin's attempt to persuade the soldiers that Eren is strategically important to humanity until Dot Pixis arrives and stops Verman 👴. After the Battle of Trost, Annie apologizes to an unknown corpse while she, Reiner and Bertolt help clean up the corpses of the other soldiers. Later, while watching the corpses burn, Annie and others are questioned by Jean about their choice of which military branch they want to join as he exclaims that he is going to enlist in the Special Brigades 🦄.
The Female Titan arc
Shortly after Eren enlists in the Survey Corps, the two Titans captured for research, Sonny and Bean, are killed and the Military Brigade checks the trainees' three-dimensional maneuvering craft. Meanwhile, Armin, Annie and Connie Springer discuss which branch of the military they want to join. When Annie reveals that she will join the Special Brigades, Connie considers joining them as well and asks her opinion. Annie responds by telling him that it's up to him to make this decision, not her. When she learns that Armin intends to join the Survey Corps, she asks him what he would do if he received the order to die. He replies that if the reasons are good, then he will do it. Annie thinks he is physically weak, but he is very strong in his heart ❤. Although Annie showed Marco Bott's three-dimensional maneuvering equipment for inspection as hers , unbeknownst to him, this causes Armin to become suspicious of her. Finally, during the Army Corps tender, Annie leaves to join the Special Brigades.
During the 57th Survey Corps expedition, Annie makes her first appearance in her Female Titan form as she leads a group of Titans to capture Eren , eliminating the majority of the scouts on the right side of the Battalion's formation. . As she advances in training, Annie meets Armin. Although she gets stuck, recognizing his face under the hood, she decides to spare her life and continues her search for Eren. Armin, Jean and Reiner unite and deduce that she aims to capture Eren , realizing that Annie may have been acting on false information as part of Erwin's plan. The three men deduce that it is more likely that Eren is in the central column, the safest place in the formation.
Armin, Jean and Reiner coordinate a plan to try to distract Annie and give the other soldiers time to regroup , but before they can attack her, she manages to outsmart them and incapacitate Armin. Although Jean engages her in combat, her resilience and knowledge of the Titans' weaknesses allows her to gain the advantage as she constantly covers the back of her Titan form's neck 🛡. Before Annie manages to kill Jean, a bloodied Armin attempts to distract her by labeling Eren as a suicide while falsely claiming his death. This causes Annie's movements to stop in a state of hesitation and confusion, giving Jean time to escape just as Reiner attempts to attack her.
Annie manages to catch Reiner in mid-air, handling him briefly before crushing him. To the great surprise of Jean and Armin, Reiner frees himself by slicing his fingers 🖐and manages to come to Armin's aid, leaving Annie immobile. As the trio attempts to escape, Annie begins to move towards the Survey Corps' central column formation, from which Armin deduces that Annie may have learned of Eren's position in the formation . Annie continues heading towards Eren's location, encountering several Battalion soldiers, killing them in various brutal ways. Although the formation heads towards the Forest of Giant Trees , Annie follows suit and eventually catches up with Eren and the special ops team as they attempt to flee on horseback 🏇.
Annie is eventually lured into a trap where her movements are stopped by artillery fire armed with harpoons 🏹. Annie temporarily halts her pursuit as Erwin and the team members attempt to damage her hands in various ways in an attempt to knock her out of her Titan form. Levi's constant provocations cause her to let out a roar that attracts many Titans to her position . Much to Erwin's surprise, the roar was intended to cause the Titans to devour her female Titan form, allowing Annie to escape her Titan form undetected using her maneuvering equipment. As Erwin orders the entire staff to retreat, Annie puts on a Battalion cape to disguise herself and launches a green flare in order to lure Eren and the rest of the soldiers in her direction.
When Annie joins the group, she is mistaken for Levi, but not for long, as Gunther questions his identity. Annie quickly disposes of Gunther, killing him with her blades. As Eren and the special ops team continue to flee, Annie transforms into the Female Titan for the second time, continuing her quest to capture Eren. Although Eren first wishes to confront him in his Titan form, the special operations squad manages to convince him to trust them by engaging Annie in combat. Although they seem to gain the advantage to the point of injuring her and pinning her against a tree 🌳, the expedition squad is suddenly overtaken by Annie who demonstrates her ability of targeted regeneration and her ability to generate a crystalline substance to protect his neck .
Annie kills Eld, Petra, and Oluo simultaneously, causing Eren to turn around and finally confront her in his Titan form. The two engage in brutal combat using hand-to-hand combat techniques, Annie uses her fighting skills and agility to beat Eren. With her advantage in the fight, she manages to neutralize Eren's Titan form with her signature kick 🦶. Tired and exhausted from the fight, Eren is captured by Annie by keeping him in the mouth of her Female Titan form. Although Annie begins to run away, Mikasa pursues her, continually attacking her in a fit of rage after witnessing Annie's capture of Eren.
Mikasa is then joined by Levi, and the two work together to intercept Annie who continues to flee. Although Annie attempts to defend herself, she begins to be overwhelmed by the tide of attacks inflicted by the two, allowing Levi to incapacitate her while having an opening to slit the Titan's mouth and save Eren from the interior 👄 . As Mikasa and Levi decide to retreat with Eren unconscious, Levi sees Annie in her Female Titan form standing still and crying. Some time later, Annie wakes up in her room in the Stohess district within the Sina Wall. Her hair is described as having the same appearance as the Female Titan's when not tied in a bun.
Upon her arrival with other Brigade recruits, Annie is teased by Hitch and Marlowe , but Boris Feulner tells them to leave her alone, believing that she has not recovered from the battle and that she is the only one to have real combat experience. The group is then given a mission in which they must guard a Battalion convoy with permission to use their maneuver equipment. Shortly after he leaves for his mission, Armin approaches him and asks him to help him hide Eren until they can convince the king to better protect the walls. Annie reluctantly agrees by putting on a ring 💍 and escorts them to a place where they can hide.
When Eren and Armin try to convince her to join them in an underground passage, she refuses because she is supposedly afraid, while expressing distrust of their plan. As Eren and Armin continue to plead for Annie to join them and prove her innocence, Mikasa, tired of their discussion, removes her hood and takes out her blades while revealing her maneuver gear. She openly refers to Annie as the Female Titan, taunting her to fight like the other two did before. Their suspicions are confirmed when Annie visibly smiles, relieved and accepting of them discovering her identity as the Female Titan, as evidenced by her refusal to enter the passage, where she cannot transform ⚡.
Annie praises Armin's efforts for betting on her plan, then stating that his bet has only just begun. After Armin gives a signal, disguised Battalion members come out of hiding and overpower Annie. Apparently captured and immobile, she still manages to open a small blade hidden in her ring with a push and injure herself 🩸, which allows her to transform into a Female Titan, killing with a single blow those who held her back. Resuming her attempts to capture Eren, Armin and Mikasa realize how desperate she is and try to get him to fight against her. Overcoming his initial hesitation, Eren transforms into a Titan and confronts Annie in her Titan form.
Annie attempts to escape to the wall shortly after Eren's transformation. She is pursued by him, Mikasa and several squads of the Survey Corps. The chase continues until Annie reaches flat land with no buildings. With nowhere to hang their grappling hooks ⚓ maneuvering equipment, the Battalion squads and Mikasa are forced to take a long detour , while Eren sets off alone in pursuit. Annie takes the opportunity to try one last time to capture Eren. A brief struggle ensues between them, and Annie delivers a brutal blow to Eren by smashing her Titan's skull with her fist, which immobilizes him again. Believing he is defeated, Eren's determination to kill the Titans drives him to attack, she continues to try to escape by scaling the wall but is caught by Eren. They both fight and Eren pokes Annie's eye out. In deep pain, Annie suddenly nudges Eren and runs towards the wall.
Armin, realizing that it is impossible to catch her with the maneuvering equipment, has Titan Eren throw Mikasa upwards , towards Annie. Her plan works and Mikasa reaches Annie moments before she is about to reach the top of the wall. Without the slightest hesitation, she cuts off all of Annie's Titan fingers , leaving her struggling to hang on. Mikasa then tells her to fall and pushes her by the head. Eren, in his Titan form, holds the body while the two soldiers cut the flesh and try to extract Annie. By extracting Annie from the Titan's body, they discover that she is completely enclosed in a presumably indestructible crystal 💎. She therefore cannot be interrogated and all their efforts to capture her are in vain.
Heaven War Arc
She was stuck in her crystal for over 4 years, and was only cared for by Hitch and Armin. She remained semi-conscious and able to hear her friends' words. She was freed from her crystal when Eren destroyed all the walls, allowing Annie and Hitch to escape from Stohess🏃♀️.

Various facts about Annie Leonhart
Like the three Mahr Warrior moles, Annie serves as a foil and counterpart to one of the main characters. In his case, it is Mikasa ; both are very skilled fighters who rarely show their emotions and are very withdrawn, but Mikasa lives for Eren and Armin, while Annie rejects everyone because of her trust issues. Additionally, Mikasa is quite tall, has black hair, and fights mostly on instinct, while Annie is short, has blonde hair, and relies on complex techniques 🔃. However, Annie and Mikasa are only similar when looking at their superficial aspects. In terms of character, personality, and reasoning, the two are nothing alike.
Despite her ruthless, sadistic, and reprehensible nature, she genuinely cares about her comrades, for example when she faced Armin twice as a Titan on the battlefield, she let him live both times, and seemed hurt when Armin used emotional blackmail to expose her because she respected him. She also sobbed when Reiner manipulated her into helping him kill Marco instead of letting Bertholdt do it for him, as Reiner had noticed that she was starting to feel too much compassion towards humanity in the walls.
Annie and her two companions do not work together like Eren, Mikasa and Armin do. There is no good communication between them, with Reiner having to do most of the work as he doubts Annie and views Bertholdt as unreliable. Annie and Reiner don't seem to get along much, even though the latter worries about her safety.
