Don Quixote Doflamingo has several hats 🧢 which make him one of the main characters in the One Piece series. He was in the past a member of the Celestial Dragons but also King of Dressrosa and one of the 7 powerful Corsair Captains . Captain of the Don Quixote Doflamingo Pirates, he is the biological big brother of Don Quixote Rocinante, aka Corazon. Before becoming aSchichibukai , his capture bounty was 340,000,000 Berrys. Under the pseudonym Joker, he was also the head of the Shadow Community, otherwise called the Underworld.
Joker Appearance
Like most other Corsair Captains, Doflamingo opted for the pink flamingo 🦩 as his representative animal, which explains his first name. Furthermore, her clothing is inspired by this theme. 24 years ago, he had long hair and wore two earrings in his left ear. And, in addition to his usual sunglasses, he showed off another pair of glasses on his forehead. 👓 Today, he now has short blond hair. Her sunglasses with purple lenses look like the heads of a pink flamingo, but upside down. What sets him apart from other pirates is his large coat covered with pink feathers. Thanks to this outfit, he appears more robust than he actually is. Note that Doflamingo is rather tall, his size exceeds that of Dracule Mihawk or Boa Hancock. On the other hand, he is smaller than Bartholomew Kuma or Gecko Moria.
Clothing-wise, Doflamingo sports a white shirt with red stripes with orange pants striped with white stripes. The patterns on his shirts and pants are always exotic. In the Punk Hazard Arc, he appeared with a white shirt and pink pants. Initially in the anime, Doflamingo was dressed in a red shirt paired with black pants with red stripes. Subsequently, during the events of the Sabaody Arc , his clothing appearance was changed so that his color scheme was the same as in the manga. On the other hand, for his sunglasses, the lenses are tinted orange in the manga while they are purple in the anime. After the two-year timeskip, his clothing has not changed, but his glasses are now red and he once again wears two earrings.
To finish on the subject of Doflamingo's appearance, he has a wacky approach due to the fact that he always wears heeled shoes. In addition, he is often seen, if not all the time, with a smile on his face.
His membership with the Celestial Dragons
As a descendant of the Don Quixote Family, Doflamingo was naturally one of the so-called Celestial Dragons. Indeed, the Don Quixote Family is one of the 20 royal families who founded the World Government 800 years ago. All descendants of these 20 bloodlines are called Celestial Dragons or World Nobles . However, for reasons unknown, Doflamingo's father made the decision to take his entire family and leave Mary Geoise. Following this abandonment, the family lived a miserable life to the point that the mother lost her life ⚰️ when Doflamingo was only 8 years old.
Angry at his father for taking away the privileges that come with being a Celestial Dragon and for the dismal life he lived, Doflamingo killed his father when he was only 10 years old. His objective was to regain his place among the Celestial Dragons and, for this, he brought them the head 💀 of his father. Unfortunately, he was rejected by the World Nobles and lost his status as a Celestial Dragon just like his brother Don Quixote Rocinante .
Devil Fruit: Ito Ito no MI
Given by Trébol to Don Quixote Doflamingo, the Paramecia Ito Ito no Mi type Devil Fruit gives him the power to produce threads with his fingers. His sons allow him to control humans as he wishes like a puppeteer. The first time Doflamingo used this power was to force allies to fight each other and even kill each other. Meanwhile, he stood aside to observe the scene. If, for the moment, we do not know the extent and limit of his power, we know that Doflamingo easily manages to take control of a large number of individuals at once. This was particularly the case when he used his ability to stage a coup in Dressrosa and force King 🤴🏼 Riku Doldo aka Riku and his army to exterminate all the inhabitants. It is important to note that everyone who had been under his control could not resist his power and were completely powerless. These people were real puppets in his hands.
In addition to total control over individuals, Doflamingo is also capable of cutting any part of the body using his wires and without making the slightest effort. Indeed, a single gesture was enough for him to cut off the right leg of Little Oars Jr or decapitate Sir Crocodile, the former member of the 7 Great Corsairs. It turns out that its threads are very strong and extremely fine. In particular, he was able to cut numerous soldiers at the same time in the Punk Hazard Arc or cut up a meteor launched by Admiral Fujitori aka Issho . Furthermore, Doflamingo is also able to create larger and stronger wires which give him the possibility of destroying larger things such as buildings and towers. This is his technique called Overito which he can use from very far away thanks to his long range.
Another aspect of the Ito Ito no Mi's power is that it allows Doflamingo to create a clone of himself with wires and then control them. He can thus control his clone in order to reproduce its different techniques as well as its movements. Doflamingo's master technique is called Torikago or Birdcage , he generally only uses it as a last resort. It consists of sending a large quantity of threads from the palm of your hand towards the sky. 🌅 As they fall, these wires then form a huge dome over the targeted area and where it is impossible to escape. The wires are like indestructible bars and anything that passes through is automatically cut, even if it is intangible things such as the Snailphone signals. Gradually, this dome shrinks and destroys everything inside.
Agility and levitation
In addition to the powers of his Devil Fruit, Doflamingo also has great reflexes and incredible agility. For example, during his confrontation with Oars Jr., he was able to avoid his attacks and jump above the latter's body. You should know that Oars Jr. is much larger than ordinary giants. When he also fought Crocodile, 🐊 he was able to escape the sandstorm created by the latter thanks to his reflexes and speed. Doflamingo has also been seen flying, gliding, levitating, or even hovering in the air. This was particularly the case during the Battle of Marine Ford where he was seen flying above Odz Jr. or when he slipped and flew from Dressrosa to Punk Hazard. This technique called Sky Way consists of sending threads towards the sky and hanging them on the clouds. Thanks to this, he can move very quickly from one place to another by "walking" in the air. However, this technique has a limitation. Indeed, according to Trafalgar D. Law , this technique depends on the presence or absence of clouds ☁️ in the sky. If there isn't, Doflamingo would be unable to fly in the air.
Haki
Doflamingo is one of the rare characters in One Piece to have mastery of all three different forms of Haki. He notably used Armament Haki which he combined with his sons in order to cut down Smoker the White Hunter. He was also seen covering his torso and left arm with Busoshoku no Haki before punching Luffy. Furthermore, he also used Haoshoku no Haki or Kings' Haki against the soldiers of the Navy's G-5 naval base. While he himself was motionless, all the soldiers around him were fading away like flies one by one.
Weapons
Aside from all his previously mentioned powers, Doflamingo also used weapons. This is particularly the case in chapter 729 of the manga entitled Shichibukai Combat: Law vs. Doflamingo when he used a gun 🔫 against Trafalgar D. Law and shot him 3 times to finish him off. He also used a sword 10 years ago when he staged a coup in Dressrosa and sought to kill Ruler Riku.
The Corsair Captain: Doflamingo
After Doflamingo was rejected by the World Nobles, he changed careers to become a pirate. During this period, he attacked a ship of the Celestial Dragons which contained offerings from different lands. His goal with this attack was to force the World Government's hand into designating him as Corsair Captain. He thus became Schichibukai around the age of 31. He used this status in particular to ensure the illegal transactions he carried out under the nickname Joker 🃏 in the New World. Furthermore, he felt no fear or respect towards the World Government and the officers of the Navy. In the Jaya Arc, during a meeting at the Holy Land of Mary Geoise , he had fun controlling the Navy officers so that they would kill each other. It is important to note that Doflamingo did not hesitate to declare to a high official of the World Government that as a pirate, he did what he wanted and that he had no problem abandoning his role as Great. Privateer at any time.
According to Caesar Clown, Joker's associate, Doflamingo is the most powerful of all the Corsair Captains. Additionally, to date, he is the only one to have defeated some of the other Schichibukai such as Gecko Moria and Trafalgar D. Law in particular. Even though he was the third Schichibukai to be introduced in One Piece, he is the last of the 7 to have encountered one of the members of the Straw Hat Pirates, namely Luffy during the Marine Battle Ford. He was also one of the main antagonists during this war. And yet, at first, he just observed without participating and laughed when he sawEdward Newgate aka Whitebeard cause a tsunami. He was also surprised to see Dracule Mihawk take part in the clashes. And when he finally took part in the battle, he cut off Odz Jr.'s leg, forced Atmos to attack his own crew, then cut off Crocodile's head and then left the fighting again. .
Who killed Doflamingo
In chapter 743 of the manga, in the Dressrosa Arc, we see Doflamingo having his head cut off. This incredible act was carried out by Kyros, a famous former one-legged gladiator from the Corrida Coliseum nicknamed Lightning Fury Soldier . He took advantage of a moment of Doflamingo's inattention, while he was talking with his men with a Snail, to decapitate him with his sword. However, it turned out that this decapitated Doflamingo was actually just a clone made of wires. Indeed, the head continued to smile 🙂 and even started to speak. Then, another Doflamingo suddenly appeared in the room to attack Kyros. The real Doflamingo is ultimately not dead.
Later, after Doflamingo was defeated by Luffy, he was captured by the Navy and locked in solitary confinement on Level 6 ofImpel Down Underwater Prison . According to him, the World Government will certainly send an assassin to silence him permanently since he knew too much about the well-kept secret on the holy land of Mary Geoise. To this day, we still don't know who this assassin could be who would be able to eliminate Doflamingo. Theories abound on this subject: Rob Lucci, Magellan the deputy director of Impel Down, Dracule Mihawk, a member of CP-0 or a henchman of the Dragons 🐉 Celestials.
Why does Doflamingo wear glasses?
Since he was a child (according to his flashbacks), Doflamingo has never been seen without his sunglasses. If we can consider that this is a specificity of this character linked to his animal theme, the pink flamingo, many have indulged in some theories. While some think it's just a style to go with his character, others think that Doflamingo actually wore these glasses 🕶️ to hide something and that he was blind in his left eye. As support for this hypothesis, they mention the Jolly Roger of Doflamingo's crew. You should know that in One Piece, a Jolly Roger generally represents the captain of the crew in question and, on that of Doflamingo, we can clearly see the latter's smile. They also believe that Doflamingo's painful past may be the cause of this blind eye, especially when he and his family were tortured by the people of Dressrosa.
As further evidence, these fans point out that every time Doflamingo is attacked from the left side, he seems to have difficulty parrying the blows. Against Sanji, he was forced to turn 180° to defend himself. Against Luffy's Red Hawk and Law's Gamma Knife , he was unable to parry them because these attacks came precisely from his left. For those who are against this theory by saying that Doflamingo's eyes have already been seen, they answer that yes but only the right eye and not the left. When the question of the mystery of these glasses was asked to Eiichirō Oda, the latter responded with a tweet showing Doflamingo removing them and behind, we see another pair of glasses directly appear 😎 (showing that the creator of One Piece absolutely wants to preserve the mystery !)
The King of Dressrosa Substitution
Originally , 800 years ago now, the Land of Love, Passion and Toys or the kingdom of Dressrosa was ruled by the Don Quixote Family . After the latter founded the World Government with 19 other royal lines. According to legend, the 19 royal lines left their respective countries and settled with their families in Mary Geoise (with the exception of the Nefertari Family which rules the Kingdom of Alabasta). To compensate for their departure, they decided to designate a new royal line to govern their respective countries. In Dressrosa's case, it was the Riku family. Under the latter's reign for 800 years, this nation surprisingly experienced no war of any kind.
Unfortunately, this miraculous peace ☮️ was turned upside down 10 years ago when Doflamingo decided to return to Dressrosa. Indeed, he fomented a coup d'état against the sovereign in place to recover the throne. One night, he broke into King Riku 's apartments and threatened to start a war in the country if the latter did not provide him with a sum of 10,000,000,000 Berrys as quickly as possible. Wanting to safeguard the peace that Dressrosa has known over the past 8 centuries, he accepted and asked his soldiers to collect the necessary money from the inhabitants of all the cities of the kingdom. He even spoke to them begging them on his knees via a video by Escargophones. Having blind trust in their sovereign, the population agreed to grant their request. Unfortunately, this trap was set up to discredit King Riku.
While his army collected the necessary amount, King Riku and his royal guard arrived on horseback 🐎 at the assembly square. Once his people were reunited, Riku and his guard began to attack the people of Dressrosa. Riku's royal guard was in reality controlled by Doflamingo by his Devil Fruit power, the Ito Ito no Mi. Following this event, the sovereign completely lost the trust of his people, and Doflamingo took the opportunity to dethrone him. At the same time, Kyros, the husband of Scarlett (daughter of King Riku) and commander of the Dressrosa army, was turned into a toy by Sugar, a member of Doflamingo's Don Quixote Pirates. His wife Scarlett was killed by Diamante in front of Kyros. Viola (the king's other daughter) was only saved thanks to her powers which were necessary for Young Master Doflamingo . She agreed to join the latter's crew in exchange for her father's life. This is how Doflamingo, both Corsair Captain and descendant of a Celestial Dragon, became King of Dressrosa.
The Joker's Allies
Even though Doflamingo was a Grand Corsair, ☠️ he was secretly involved in illicit activities on behalf of the Underworld, a mafia organization. As a broker or shadow man, he became the most powerful and influential person. And to hide his true identity, he called himself Joker.
Caesar Clown
Caesar Clown was once a scientist under the orders of the World Government and the second in command of Dr. Vegapunk (his rival to be more precise). Very brilliant but dangerous psychopath, he is an expert in the field of weapons of mass destruction. Arrested for being at the origin of a chemical weapon which caused an accident on the island 🏝️ of Punk Hazard, he escaped. He was recruited 4 years ago by Doflamingo who promised him protection from the World Government which had placed a bounty of 300,000,000 Berrys on his head. Nicknamed Master by his subordinates, he has since become an associate of Doflamingo. In addition to being able to create giants from normal human beings and drugs (NHC10 and others), he is the originator of several weapons of mass destruction.
The most prominent of these is a blob animal that has been nicknamed Smiley . It is a monster similar to a mountain from which toxic gas constantly comes out in the form of steam or smoke. 💨 It is known that this gelatinous creature is the result of the chemical accident caused by Caesar Clown on Punk Hazard. The latter can control it through voice commands. he is also the only person capable of producing SAD which is a very precious and rare substance. This substance is the main ingredient allowing the artificial creation of Zoan-type Devil Fruits , namely Smiles. Even if Caesar Clawn has great admiration for Doflamingo and the latter greatly appreciates his work, this does not mean that he trusts him entirely. This is why Doflamingo commissioned Vergo as an intermediary and the latter charged the harpy woman Monet with infiltrating Punk Hazard and spying on the scientist. 👨🏼🔬
Kaido
Kaido of the Hundred Beasts is one of the Four Emperors who are the most powerful and well-known pirate captains in the world of One Piece. Even though Kaido is not on very good terms with Doflamingo, they have made an alliance allowing Kaido to become one of the Young Master's trafficking clients. He obtains from the latter a large number of Zoan Smiles intended for the 100 soldiers who form his army. These artificial Devil Fruits 🍑 are made from the SAD designed by César Clown. This substance is produced in large quantities in building D of his laboratory located on the island of Punk Hazard and stored in a huge metal tank. Subsequently, the SAD is transferred to Dressrosa to Doflamingo's Smiles Factory, or Black Factory. 500 dwarves from the Kingdom of Tontatta and captured by Joker work by force in this factory to produce and harvest the Smile. Then, Doflamingo sells them to Emperor Kaido.
World Government
The alliance between Doflamingo and the World Government is due to the fact that he is a Corsair Captain and that he was part of the World Nobles. However, this alliance is fragile due to the fact that Doflamingo only obtained his status as Shichibukai through threats and that he does as he pleases. Furthermore, he shows no fear towards the organization and no respect towards its members, and more specifically towards Chief Admiral Sengoku . Recall that, out of boredom, he had fun controlling the Navy officers present at a meeting at Mary Geoise so that they would kill each other. Fortunately, Vice-Admiral Tsuru intervened to stop the fight. 🤼 After the Battle of Marine Ford, a high official of the World Government (about whom we don't know much except that he is more influential than Sengoku) commissioned Doflamingo to kill Gecko Moria. As the latter escaped his death and Doflamingo was admonished, the Young Master became angry and threatened to leave the Grand Corsairs if his agreement with the World Government became unsuccessful for him.
Disco
One of the illicit and immoral activities Doflamingo practiced as Joker was slave trading because it amused or excited him. Before the two-year timeskip, Doflamingo had entrusted Disco with the role of manager of the Slave Auction House located in Grove 1 of the Sabaody Archipelago. His role was to present the human merchandise to potential buyers. During the Straw Hats' attack on the archipelago to rescue Camie, Disco was knocked out by Silvers Rayleigh's Haki of the Kings as well as all the other soldiers present in the room. When he asked Doflamingo for help, he instead left him the store 🛒 because he no longer cared about it, much to Disco's dismay. Once the timeskip passed, we saw Disco in total disgrace, like a beggar.
Bellamy
Bellamy, known as The Hyena, is the captain of the New Age Pirates which is affiliated with the New Age movement founded by Doflamingo. He was also a former member of the latter's crew and his ally. Even though they have their own emblem, 🏴☠️ they still took an oath of allegiance to the Young Master. It is important to note that Bellamy has always been willing to do anything to gain Doflamingo's trust. And yet, losing his fight against Luffy, Doflamingo began to consider him weak and inflict punishment on him. But he survived since we see him, after the timeskip, participating in the tournament taking place at the Corrida Coliseum on Dressrosa which allows the winner to win the fruit of Mera Mera no Mi. Doflamingo made him the promise that he would obtain a leadership position in his crew if he managed to win the tournament. Once again, he suffered defeat, which led Doflamingo to give him another chance: he had to kill Monkey D. Luffy. However, he learned that if he failed once again on this last mission, Doflamingo would have him killed by Dellinger, a member of the Doflamingo Donquixote Pirates . Even though Bellamy was easily beaten by the latter, he was spared thanks to the intervention of Bartolomeo aka the Crazy Rookie.
Doflamingo vs Luffy
Doflamingo and Luffy first faced each other in a quick fight in the Dressrosa Arc after Luffy protected Kyros from the Young Master's attack. Very quickly, the Shichibukai gained the upper hand over Luffy. Thanks to the power of Ito Ito no MI as well as his mastery of Combative Fluid , he had no difficulty in withstanding Luffy's blows. He then unleashed his Bird Cage technique on Dressrosa and began searching for Luffy. After another clone of Doflamingo was beaten by Abdullah and Jeet, who came to help Luffy, the latter associated with Law found himself facing the real Young Master. While Luffy fights a new clone on his side, Law is attacked from all sides by Doflamingo and is crushed despite being able to pierce his abdomen with his Injection Shot technique. About to finish Law off with a gun, he is interrupted by Luffy who has defeated the clone.
Believing at first that Law has given up the ghost, 👻 Doflamingo prepares to face Luffy. As the fight intensifies, the two characters use their different techniques. Luffy called upon his Gear Second then his Gear Third and finally activated his Gear Fourth . Not having anticipated the power of this technique, Doflamingo ends up thrown several times into the scenery under the blows of Luffy. Despite these numerous attacks, Doflamingo managed to get back on his feet each time. For his part, Luffy is exhausted from the effects of Gear Fourth. Gladiators then come to protect him by preventing Doflamingo from attacking him so that he can recharge his Haki. For his part, Doflamingo, annoyed by these gladiators, decides to hasten the shrinking of the Bird Cage to force Luffy to show himself.
While he continues to look for Luffy, Doflamingo is attacked by Viola who wants to kill him in order to stop the catastrophe. Unfortunately, Doflamingo massacres her before the terrified eyes of his niece Rebecca. Furthermore, Doflamingo takes control of the latter to force her to kill her aunt. That's when Luffy reappears and the fight resumes. Still exhausted even though he was able to recover his Haki, Luffy is initially dominated by Doflamingo, without being able to make the slightest move. But then, Luffy launches an attack 👊🏼 even more powerful than any used before, namely the Gomu Gomu no King Kong Gun . This technique is a combination of Gear Fourth and Gear Third allowing Luffy to inflate his arm and make it even more massive and powerful than it already is. With this single blow, Doflamingo finds himself knocked out and thrown into the underground port as the earth completely disintegrates from the blast.
History of Doflamingo
As seen earlier in the article, Doflamingo has not had an easy life. After renouncing the status of Tenryūbito and all the privileges that come with it, including godhood, Don Quixote Homing and his family experienced a life of suffering. Having become simple humans in the eyes of everyone, they are then chased by the descendants of former slaves. ⛓️ They are forced to go into exile outside Mary Geoise in an unknown city. Their pursuers constantly track them down to the point that one of them ends up killing Doflamingo's mother. Furthermore, their appeal to the World Nobles for help was refused. And Doflamingo experienced hunger as well as physical and moral suffering during this forced exile. He and his family were notably arrested, tortured, crucified, beaten, etc. All this misery and pain led Doflamingo to hate his father and kill him when he was only 10 years old. In addition, he developed a harsh, cruel and merciless character towards anyone. For him, only the strong deserve to live.
After that, with his brother, he brought his father's head back to Mary Geoise hoping to regain his status as a Celestial Dragon. Unfortunately, his request was rejected because, to the World Nobles, their family is a family of traitors who have mixed in with the commoners. They also wanted to kill the two brothers because they knew about the treasure 💰 hidden from Mary Geoise. But Doflamingo and Rocinante managed to escape and it was from that moment that they opted for a new life as pirates. Doflamingo formed a new family made up entirely of pirates and he began to make a reputation for himself by attacking the ships which brought offerings intended for the World Nobles. His goal was to take revenge on the Celestial Dragons. It should be noted that Doflamingo killed his own brother thirteen years ago for betraying him by saving the life of Traflagar D. Law.
The rest, we know it, he became Grand Corsair, King of Dressrosa, shadow broker for the underworld as Joker, slave trader and finally ended up in prison in Impel Down after being defeated by Luffy. Many think that we have not heard the last of Doflamingo and that his so-called assassin will help him escape from Impel Down. What do you think ?
