Nicknamed Straw Hat Luffy , Monkey D. Luffy is the main character of the Japanese license One Piece. Both fun and friendly, this incredible pirate is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. He has the particularity of having an elastic body like rubber, a power he obtained by eating a Devil Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi.
Luffy is recognized worldwide for his acts of piracy which caused a large number of troubles within the One Piece universe. The meaning of the Pirate King
Luffy has this habit of repeating constantly, in each episode, that he dreams of becoming the Pirate Lord. But what does being the Pirate King really mean in the mind of the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates?
First of all, this is in no way about power, strength, or powers like haki or Devil Fruits . These are just means to achieve the goal and not the objective in itself. And, therefore, being Pirate King does not mean having dominion over other pirates or the world either. It's not about having the biggest treasure in the world either. Thus, any pirate can claim this title regardless of their abilities, power or strength.
In One Piece, each protagonist has their vision of what the Pirate King should be. 🏴☠️ For example, for Shiki the Golden Lion or Blackbeard , it's about being the most powerful pirate in the world. On the other hand, for Luffy, this status relates more to the notion of freedom. Indeed, according to Luffy, the one who succeeds in becoming the freest pirate in the world can become King of the Pirates.
Become the Pirate Lord
In the past, the title of Pirate Lord was given to Gol D. Roger because he and his crew were the only ones to have sailed the seas to the ends of the earth and conquered the Grand Line or the Road of Great Perils . He is the former owner of the famous treasure, the One Piece, 💎 which he is said to have hidden on the last island of the Grand Line, Laugh Tell. At his execution, more than 20 years ago in his hometown Logue Town , he declared: " My treasure? I'll leave it to you if you want. Find it! I left it somewhere in this world! ".
