Naturally, a series this popular is going to have a devoted fanbase who will show their love for the series in more or less creative ways. Some of them even used their bodies as a canvas to express their love for Eiichiro Oda's work. Here are 10 iconic tattoos made on the skin of manga fans .

10. One Piece Tattoo: Cross on the Wrist

X brand

Friendship is one of the most prevalent themes in One Piece, and it has led to many touching moments. One of the most moving is the story of Brand he touched it .

To ensure that the crew members can recognize each other from a potential infiltrator, they each draw an X on their wrist . At the end of the arc, they show this mark to the princess to reaffirm their friendship as they leave 🚢.

9. One Piece Tattoo: Three Hats

3 Hats
Another important theme of the series is that " family" means more than the people you share blood with . Everyone can become family if they care enough about others. The protagonist Luffy has both types of family, but this tattoo is about the brothers he chose .

The orange hat belonged to Portgas D. Ace , a member of the Whitebeard Pirates and the son ofGol D. Roger , the Pirate King... The black top hat was worn by their friend Sabo , son of a group of nobles who had fled their parents. Sabo was shown as dead at the start of the series but was later revealed to be alive. Unfortunately, Ace subsequently died at the hands of Naval Admiral Akainu 🌋.

8. One Piece Tattoo: Three Sabers

3 Sabers
One of the first crew members Luffy recruited was the bounty hunter and swordsman who aspired to become number 1 in his field, Zoro. He is the creator of Santoryu or the three swords style . To do this, Zoro holds two of his swords in his hands, and the third in his mouth 👄. This unorthodox style has allowed the pirate to be one of the most powerful swordsmen in the series.

Naturally, this style requires him to carry three swords on his belt at all times. This tattoo depicts three of the swords that Zoro has worn in the series. Two of them have varied over the course of the series, but the one constant is the right sword, Wado Ichimonji , the sword that belonged to Zoro's now deceased best friend ⚰️.

7. One Piece tattoo: The mark of the Sun Pirates

Pirate of the Sun
In One Piece, there is an upper class of nobles. They are known as Tenryubito, and they have enormous political power. The Tenryubito is allowed to do whatever he wants, committing murder, torture, and even slavery .

Slaves of nobles are marked with a mark. A former slave, Fisher Tiger eventually escaped his enslavement and freed several other slaves. Many fish-man slaves joined the crew and, to erase the mark, placed a large sun on top of the Jolly Roger of the Sun Pirates crew .

6. One Piece Tattoo: ASCE

ASCE
Series creator Eichiro Oda is known for including small details in his work that only become relevant to the story much later, sometimes years after their initial appearance . Sometimes the smallest details can connect to big plot developments, or even hint at characters who haven't yet been introduced.

One of the first examples is this tattoo that Ace, Luffy's brother, had on his arm. The S crossed out on the tattoo represents one of the most important people in his eyes 👁. As children, he and Luffy were friends with a boy named Sabo , who they believed to have been killed, hence why he was barred.

5. One Piece Tattoo: Jolly Roger from Whitebeard

Whitebeard Pirate
Edward Newgate, aka Whitebeard, was once considered the strongest man in the world. He is one of the Yonko (Four Emperors) four pirates so powerful that they are considered one of the three powers that control the world. Whitebeard was known to consider his entire crew his own family, and they return that affection. To that end, many of them have his Jolly Roger tattooed on their bodies , including Portgas D. Ace.

This tattoo is not a simple marking. Those who know what he represents often refuse to associate with them, knowing that if they harm them, they will suffer the wrath of Whitebeard 💥.

4. One Piece Tattoo: Wanted

Wanted Luffy

The World Government distributes bounties to those it considers a threat to its power. Although not a representation of individual strength, it is generally accepted that the higher a criminal's bounty, the stronger that person is . Luffy receives his first bounty very early in the series after defeating a famous fishman pirate known as Arlong.

While his bounty has increased throughout history, going from 30,000,000 berries for his first crime to 1,500,000,000 today.

3. One Piece Tattoo: 3D2Y

3D2Y
Just after achieving their long-held goal of reaching the New World, the mugiwaras are brought to their lowest point. After Luffy hits a Tenryubito , they are chased by a Marine Admiral, one of the strongest fighters in the series. The confrontation ends with the Strawhats dispersing throughout the world and their separation.

After failing to save his brother Ace, Luffy realizes that he and his crew must be much stronger if they are to survive the New World. To send them a message, he lets himself be photographed with the 3D2Y tattoo. The 3D is crossed out ❌, and the tattoo informs them that instead of meeting again in 3 days, they will meet again in 2 years .

2. One Piece Tattoo: Devil Fruit

Devil's fruit
Akuma no Mi, or devil fruits , are an integral part of the series' universe. Devil fruits are strange-looking and tasting fruits that give anyone who eats them some sort of strange power . They can give a person the ability to assume the form of an animal 🐘, or even control and transform into an element 🌊.

Early on, Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi 🍇, which gave him a rubber-like body. This tattoo is the fruit he ate. To someone unfamiliar with Oda's universe, it would just look like a weird fruit tattoo, but the fans will know!

1. One Piece Tattoo: Straw Hat

The Straw Hat

In One Piece, each great pirate is given an epithet that describes something about them. This nickname may reflect something about their appearance, personality, or abilities. The main character is known as "Straw Hat Luffy" for the simple straw hat he wears at all times 👒.

More than just a piece of clothing, Luffy's hat was given to him by his idol, Shanks the Redhead . Before leaving Luffy's hometown to continue his pirate adventures, he gives it to the child and tells him to return it to him when he becomes a great pirate 🦜.
