My Hero Academia is an anime with many characters. One of the most interesting in 1-A is Toru Hagakure. Here are some little-known facts about “the invisible girl.”
So it's not surprising to learn that there are a lot of details that can be missing from a character. For example, there are a lot of things fans don't know about Toru Hagakure, aka the Invisible Girl. So we are here to tell you all those little things that you don't know or that you may have missed. We hope you find it as fascinating as we do 🙌!
Toru's influences
Guess who influenced the creation of Toru. Seriously, it won't be that hard to guess. It is indeed: the Invisible Woman 🦸♀️ . It's pretty obvious, we know. And it holds up with a lot of other characters we've seen in MHA, as the series was heavily influenced by American superheroes.
Theories about his Quirk
For some time now, fans have been theorizing about Toru's Quirk. After all, it seems she has this ability active 24/7 . Fans have tried to find out if this is a choice on his part, or if the activation of the latter is not optional.
Considering the fact that we saw her both asleep and unconscious , we're leaning towards the non-optional. “Seen” is a figurative word choice here, since we literally couldn't see her, given that she was still invisible 🤔...
Light Focus
Toru's Quirk gives him the ability to be invisible. We know it. This means that the light literally passes through his skin .
Toru has developed a special move, known as " Light Focus ". Here she bends the light inside her body, which, once again, allows the light to pass through. She can then use the light she has taken into herself to blind her opponents ✨ . Rather practical and ingenious as a technique, no?
She could have been a man
Here's some information that might surprise you: The character of Toru was originally quite different during the first sketches 📝. For one, she was originally intended to be a male character .
But then Kohei Horikoshi (the author of the series) decided to change that when he noticed the severe imbalance between male and female characters in Class 1-A . We are grateful to him 🙏 for this change without which, the character of Toru would not have been the one we currently know.
Besides, a funny little note: Toru is not the only character whose gender has changed thanks to this excessive gap!
The meaning behind its name
Like many characters in My Hero Academia, Toru Hagakure's name has a meaning. Toru roughly translates to "transparent" , while Hagakure can be taken to mean "hidden in the leaves" 🍂.
Both of these names are unsubtle references to Toru's Quirk. This leaves us with a few questions. What are the possible Quirks of his parents? Are they also invisible? And was Toru born invisible? This would be very difficult for new parents to manage 👪.
The first version of Toru's costume
Toru was also originally designed with a loaded superhero outfit. We're used to seeing her wearing only shoes and gloves (that's really all we get to see of her). But originally, she wore a mask 🎭 and several other items.
Again, this whole design is from when Toru was still a man 👨. The mask itself therefore has a very masculine appearance, and is therefore not something Toru would have considered wearing.
Rankings
Thanks to all the tests the university students have taken, we have a good idea of Toru's ranking (as well as the rest of the students in class 1-A). Toru came in 16th in her class, 18th in the quirk assessment test (the one organized by Professor Aizawa), 16th again in their grades, and she got 42nd place in the UA Grand Sports Festival
Next, let's talk about his stats from the Ultra Archive Book , which are the official stats. Toru's power is the lowest of his ratings, with a 2 out of 5. Next, speed, which is at 3, technique and intelligence are equal, and both come in at 4. Finally, cooperation gives Toru a good 5 out of 5.
Untapped potential
Toru's Quirk seems to have a lot of downsides. First of all, she can't seem to turn it off . But we can't help but think that Toru has endless possibilities with his quirk 💭.
The more we think about it, the more it makes sense that Toru could take this Quirk further than she did. We really hope this happens in the next few seasons 🎥, because there's some serious untapped potential there.
The search for attention
Toru is a character who constantly needs attention . If you observe what is happening in the background you can see it well, not really 👀...
She constantly worries about what people think of her, and her love of bright, bubbly colors is a clear indication of her need to be seen as a normal teenager . It's actually a pretty sad situation when you think about it.
The traitor of UA
And the last point on our list of things to know about Toru Hagakure: the incredible theory surrounding him 🕵️♂️. There is a strong theory that Toru is actuallythe traitor UA is looking for .
Think about it. She would be the perfect spy, since she could actually go wherever she wanted without being detected . Additionally, there were a few crucial moments during the attacks where we couldn't verify her whereabouts.
We know where she said she was, but it's completely unverifiable.
